Everyone I know dreads getting out of bed in the morning, especially after getting a restful, relaxing night’s sleep on a Midwest Mattress (shameless plug!). But, we all have to get up and face the world, so how can we make the most out of every day? It’s simple, get the most out of our nights! How do we do achieve the perfect night’s sleep to wake up refreshed and ready to go?
First, make sure you go to bed when you are tired. Don’t wait until that TV show is over, or worse, that Netflix binge you’ve been on all weekend. It’s easy to keep ourselves awake to “finish” something up, but the reality is, it will still be there tomorrow. Finish that episode where you left off, turn on the DVR, and now you can fast forward through all those commercials making the most of your time.
Second, clean up after dinner. Don’t wait until before bed to do the last minute picking-up. Its stressful and stimulates our minds distracting us from falling asleep quickly. It’s easy after a big meal to go crash on the couch and grab your laptop or gaming console, but fight that urge. Pick up, do a quick 15-30 minute clean up each evening after supper and you will see how much better you feel at bedtime, allowing you to relax and fall asleep faster without the to-do list running through your head.
Last, don’t hit snooze! I know this is habit forming and we tell ourselves it feels good to lay there and slowly wake up. What this really does, however, it allows us to start our day by procrastinating. This sets us up to procrastinate the rest of the day and not be as productive as we could be. If you set your alarm for 6:00am, but routinely wake up at 6:20am, then just set your alarm for 6:20am. You will get more sleep, allowing you to wake up more refreshed and face what the day has in store for you.
