Choosing the Correct Pillow

Choosing the correct pillow can be a difficult task. There are so many options out there it really just comes down to what pillow you find the most comfortable. I tell my customers the only thing that you really need to keep in mind is that you need a different pillow for side sleeping, than when you are on your back or stomach.

Side sleeping requires a much thicker pillow as you have a large right angle created with your neck and shoulders, whereas on your back or stomach you don’t have such a large gap to fill in. This is the reason many people can’t get comfortable at night, they’re using the wrong pillow for their preferred sleeping position.

I choose to use a pillow committee when I sleep. A thicker pillow for under my head (I’m a side sleeper), a pillow under my arm (to offset gravity pulling my shoulder down), and a pillow between my knees to offset gravity pulling my knees down putting strain on my lower back. Sometimes I’ll even put one behind my back to eliminate the sensation of rolling onto your back. It may sound silly, but you should try it sometime!
